Thursday, March 25, 2010

The D-II Finals are set, and surprise, surprise, #1 and #2 ain't involved.

#6 Fort Lewis (first time to the Finals) will face off with Emporia State (second time to the Finals).

To get there, the team from Colorado just ran over the Franklin Pierce Ravens, 79-64.
“I think we definitely thought (playing for a title) was a possibility, and now that it's actually panned out that way, it's unbelievable," FLC guard Laura Haugen said.

“We've been looking forward to this since Day 1 … working so hard in preseason for four years, all those crappy practices and tough losses, it's paid off," Haugen said.
Emporia State has completed an improbable run to the title game: They'd lost two of their last three regular season games, then an exited in the semifinals of the MIAA Tournament. Once in the tourney, the #15 Hornets (29-5) had to beat three top 10 teams to get to the semis, where the faced #1 (and undefeated) Gannon, who'd set a Division II record for consecutive victories. .

The Lady Hornets then found themselves down 18 points with with 8:48 left in the second half, only pull out a 97-94 win.

Check out the title game at 6 p.m. Friday on ESPN2.
